This is “Hottie” getting acupuncture on her Valentine’s Day Birthday.

Acupuncture is a time-tested technique in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) that involves inserting thin, sterile needles at specific points on the body. This stimulates natural healing, improves circulation, and helps restore balance in your pet’s system. Acupuncture is commonly used for pain relief, mobility support, and overall wellness.

Benefits

  • Pain relief: Helps manage arthritis, hip dysplasia, and joint discomfort.
  • Improved mobility: Supports pets with neurological disorders or post-surgical recovery.
  • Enhanced circulation: Increases blood flow to aid healing and tissue repair.
  • Stress and anxiety reduction: Promotes relaxation and emotional balance.
  • Support for chronic conditions: Aids in managing kidney disease, digestive issues, and respiratory problems.

Process

Acupuncture may consist of placing very thin sterile single use acupuncture needles (several hairs in thickness) at precise points. For some conditions, electroacupuncture may be utilized which uses gentle stimulation at precise frequency to stimulate release of serotonin, endorphins, enkephalins, and promote healing. In some cases aquapuncture is used, which involves giving sterile injections at acupuncture sites to leave a small “bleb” that will more strongly stimulate the point while it is being absorbed. This method is especially beneficial for patients that will not sit still. Acupuncture may be combined with other TCVM modalities and/or pharmaceuticals, depending on your pet’s needs.
